Bovine genital campylobacteriosis (BGC) is a sexually transmitted infection caused by C. fetus subsp. venerealis (CFV), with associated complications of infertility and abortion in cattle. The CFV organism can be isolated from the tissues of aborted fetuses, PBS diluted bull semen, and from the genital tracts of cattle. Skirrow’s medium is suitable for the direct plating of fresh swabs from these sample matrices (i.e., preputial smegma, vaginal mucus et al.) or properly controlled samples transported in Amie’s media or other applicable transport media (1).
